Judging Panel
Below are the 2012 judges.
An independent panel of judges including previous winners and members of the Private Dentistry editorial board will select the winners. The judging panel consists of experienced and respected dentists. David Houston, who has been a principal dentist for over 19 years, will chair this panel for the tenth year running.
Judging - Stage one
During August the judging panel will study all entries and compile a shortlist for each category. The shortlist will be published in Private Dentistry’s October issue as well as on this website. All entrants will be notified whether or not they have been shortlisted.
The Practice of the Year Award will be chosen by the judges from the other award winners as the most outstanding practice for 2012.
Judging - Stage two
The judging panel will then re-examine the shortlisted entries at a later date and may call for more information or even request a visit to your practice. Each entry will be examined carefully and the very best entrant will be chosen as the winner. The judges’ decision is final.
Judges
 David Houston BDS is chairman of the 2009 Private Dentistry Awards. Having qualified from Dundee University in 1985, he has been a principal dentist for 21 years. His practice won the prestigious ITV/BDA Practice of the Millennium Award in 2000. Since then he has written a series of articles for Private Dentistry, for which he sits on the editorial board and Aesthetic Dentistry Today. He was also voted Dentistry Magazines ninth most influential figure in UK dentistry 2007. David is joint principal of the largest ‘single site’ practice in the UK and he owns 2 dental laboratories. He is the retained dentist for ITV television and BBC Radio. Winner of Wow! Awards 2008, Cordent Trust Award 2003 and The Royal Odontochirugical Society of Scotland Award.
 Luke Barnett
Luke started his career in technical dentistry in 1976, and after qualifying took a specialist interest in dental ceramics setting up his own business in 1985. Luke and his team have established themselves as one of the UK's most influential ceramic specialists working out of his state of the art facility in Watford, Herts. He is a founding member of the BACD and was Chairman of the laboratory committee up to November 2007, he remains on the Board of directors at sub-committee level and sits on in Accreditation board of examiners. He is the first Technician to achieve the levels of excellence required to obtain BACD Accreditation. He is a sustaining member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
 Mervyn Druian BDS (Rand) DGDP RCS
Dr Druian is a leader, lecturer and innovator in preventive dentistry and has over 30 years of experience in dentistry. He has a special interest in the field of periodontal disease, cosmetic dentistry and treating halitosis. He is also on the editorial board of “FMC Publications”, and is current Chairman of the “Private Practitioners Group” and involved with the “Alpha Omega” Dental Society. He has been Hon. Secretary of the British Dental Editors Forum for the past 10 years. For the past few years Mervyn has been the principle dentist featured in the “Extreme Makeover UK” programme. He has recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Dental Bleaching Society at the World Aesthetic Congress in 2011.
 Thang Nghiem BDS is a principal dentist at UltraSmile*, the Private Dentistry Practice of the Year 2007, along with his brother Khoi. Thang’s passion for Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry has taken him all over the world. He was one of the first UK dentists to achieve the Masters Level in Cosmetic Dentistry with the Aesthetic Advantage Group in New York and the first to complete the Functional Occlusion Course with the Dawson Academy in Florida. He is a sustaining member of the AACD and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.'
 Elaine Halley BDS, MFGDP(UK) is the principal of the award-winning Cherrybank Dental Spa, private practices with locations in Perth and Edinburgh. Her main interest is cosmetic and advanced restorative dentistry and she is an accredited member and has served as the president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has served as a clinical instructor and mentor for the California Centre for Advanced Dental Studies and many other hands-on programs. Elaine serves on the editorial board for Private Dentistry and Aesthetic Dentistry Today and has authored numerous articles on subjects ranging from clinical case studies to practice management and lectures frequently throughout the UK.
 Dr. Rahul Doshi BDS LDSRCS is the director and founder of The Perfect Smile Studios and The Advanced Training Institute, where he teaches Interdisciplinary Comprehensive Hands-On Dentistry. He is also a renowned inspirational and life-changing speaker who lectures nationally and internationally on Cosmetic Dentistry, Occlusion, Treatment Planning, Laser Dentistry, Leadership and Practice Management. He also works as a Consultant Business Strategist for Dental WEALTH Builder. Dr Rahul Doshi is the Clinical Director of Premium Practice Dentistry. Dr Rahul Doshi has an in-depth knowledge of working with the media as he has been widely featured in the National Media. He has a keen interest in Cosmetic Dentistry and has changed many lives including many of the patients on Extreme Makeover UK.
 Bhavna Doshi BDS is one of UK’s leading cosmetic dentists who has worked with TV media on various makeovers, the most popular of them being Extreme Makeover UK. She is a Senior Business Director at The Perfect Smile Advanced Training Institute and also CEO of Dental Wealth Builder. She lectures internationally and works as a Business Consultant Strategist on various elements of Practice Profitability, Cost-Effective Marketing and Growth Solutions in dentistry.
 Sunita Verma BDS(Lon) LDS RCS (Eng) is a leading cosmetic dentist. In her mission to help people to achieve the physical and psychological benefits of a beautiful healthy smile, Sunita set up Sparkle Dental Boutique, a multi award winning private practice in West London. Now firmly established as a premier private practice in the UK, Sparkle Dental Boutique has revolutionised patient care and is positively changing patient perception of visiting the dentist.
Sunita is the recent recipient of the prestigious accolade of Professional of the Year 2009 awarded at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards and is the first female dentist in England to achieve the BACD Accreditation.
 Ian Buckle BDS qualified from Liverpool University in 1985. He has over 20 years experience in general practice both in the Private sector and with the National Health Service. The first International Faculty Member of the Dawson Academy for Advanced Dental Education in St. Petersburg, Florida, he is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), British Dental Association (BDA) and Association of Dental Implantology (ADI).
 Tim Eldridge BDS Since qualifying in dentistry at Birmingham University, Tim has gained a wealth of experience in multidisciplinary practices.
Being a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Tim keeps up to date with the latest techniques. Currently Tim is chairman of CODE and is their facial aesthetics trainer and lecturer. Over the past few years Tim has trained hundreds of dentists, doctors therapists, hygienists and registered medical nurses in this field both nationally and internationally. He has also lectured in facial aesthetics on some of the leading dental restorative courses, and has written articles for the dental press.
 David Cunningham BDS David heads the clinical team at Spring Grove Clinic. Since qualifying in 1991, Dr Cunningham has developed his practice into a highly successful private cosmetic clinic specializing in advanced cosmetic techniques and attends numerous training courses in order to keep abreast of the many advances in his field of interest. In addition Dr Cunningham has held a teaching post at Glasgow Dental Hospital, supervising and guiding senior students – the dentists of the future. Somehow Dr Cunningham finds time to pursue his interests in hill walking, running, skiing and sailing.
 Julian Caplan BDS Being a leading authority in cosmetic dentistry Julian is on the Board of Directors for the new British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is one of a handful of dentists in the UK that is a sustaining member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has travelled the world attending several courses to learn from the grandmasters of cosmetic dentistry in the States and all over Europe. He works alongside world-renowned dentist to the celebrities, Dr Larry Rosenthal, mentoring other dentists throughout the UK to perfect their skills in smile design and cosmetic dentistry. He lectures in the UK and internationally on cosmetic and CEREC dentistry.
Dr Caplan is one of only nine dentists worldwide that has achieved Accreditation status with the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
 Anthony Laurie MDT FBIDST FCGI lectures extensively, both internationally and in the UK, and is the author of numerous publications. He is the Managing Director of 'Dental Excellence' and Principal of DENTS. Anthony trained at the Eastman Dental Hospital with over 30 years experience in dental technology. He is one of only three people in the UK to have been conferred Fellowship of the City and Guilds for Dentistry and is also a Fellow of the British Institute of Dental and Surgical Technicians. He is the immediate past President of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (BAAD), a recipient of the prestigious Dennison Award (2006) and was UK Technician of the Year 2003. His training facility offers continuing postgraduate education for both clinicians and technicians and is registered as a school with the department for Innovation, Universities & Skills (DIUS).
 Michael Watts BDS qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1988. Since moving to the UK he is the principal dentist & heads the clinical team at both Selbourne & Baker Street Dental Care in Hertfordshire. He has over 20 years of experience in general practice and has developed his practices into highly successful Private & NHS multi-disciplinary surgeries. His primary interests are in Cosmetic, Restorative & Periodontal treatments and attends numerous training courses in order to keep abreast of the many advances in these fields
 David Nelson is the Clinical Director of Cranmore and was one of the first dentists in Northern Ireland to obtain a Masters Degree in Dental Implantology. Cranmore has been appointed as the Irish Training Facility for the University of Central Lancashire, Institute of Postgraduate Dental Education Masters Programme in Implant Dentistry, with David as Lead Clinical Supervisor. In addition, David is a Tutor on dental implants at the School of Dentistry, Queen’s University Belfast. In 2011 David established the Cranmore Academy which delivers a series of clinical and non-clinical study clubs for dentists. David is on the Board of Directors for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, whilst being a Mentor and Study Club Facilitator for the International Team for Implantology.
